How to go about getting a film produced?

I have a screenplay for a film and I am wondering how I can get it produced. I want to direct the film myself, but I don't know how to go about that.

I currently have no actors, no budget, and no equiptment. How do I get a producer? Or if I produce the film myself, how do I get actors and funds?|||Troy Duffy? Yeah, he's a huge success. Follow his path if you want your film to be in litigation for ten years before you can make another film.

Every film has it's own path. Most never get made and as much as people trot out the go to Hollywood, get an agent, get a sale, get it made, they haven't a clue. Because they've never sold anything to anyone.

You want to get noticed as a writer / director? Make a solid short film. Show you've got the ability and the visual chops to get something made. To tell a story and to convey the emotion of the piece in a concise and artful way. A good short is the calling card that will get you in the door with people who can make a difference in your film future.

Scripts are ten a penny and good scripts are a very rare commodity. Studios are navel gazing right now trying to turn their favorite board game into the next blockbuster (Check out Battleship on IMDB). The spec market is in tough times right now, which means independent markets are where you need to focus.

That means attending film festivals (also better if you have a short in competition) and staying for the Q%26amp;A sessions. Meeting and talking to other film professionals, building relationships. Educating yourself in how it all works.

The Creative Screenwriting podcast is over 200 hours of interviews with writers, directors and producers. A lot of breaking in stories are covered. I recommend the Steven Gaghan interview as a start.

I'm a produced screenwriter with feature film and TV credits and eighteen years experience in the industry.|||move to hollywood and find a sugarmama/sugardaddy in the industry.
